🌾Progress Update: Growing Hope on 6 Hectares of Swamp Land
Date: July 2025
By: Kakaluhun Farmers Development Association (KafDA)
At KaFDA, we believe in farming with purpose—feeding our people while creating lasting change in rural communities. We’re excited to share a powerful update on the work we’ve done this past year in Kpetewoma, Lugbu Chiefdom.
Expanding Rice Production: 6 Hectares Reclaimed
Over the past year, our team successfully cultivated and prepared 6 hectares of fertile swamp land for double-season rice farming. This milestone marks a significant step toward achieving food self-sufficiency in our region.
With this reclaimed land, we’re now able to grow rice not just once, but twice a year, increasing both our yield and our impact.
Empowering Our People: 50+ Jobs Created
More than 50 local youth and adults were employed through our seasonal farming activities. These aren’t just temporary jobs—they are dignified opportunities for rural men and women to earn income, learn skills, and feed their families with pride.
At KaFDA, we know that when you invest in people, you invest in the future.
Building for the Long-Term: New Drying Floor and Storage Facility
In 2024, we constructed a modern drying floor and storage facility in the heart of Kpetewoma. This infrastructure means:
- Less post-harvest loss
- Improved rice quality
- Better market access for our farmers
It’s not just a building—it’s a symbol of progress and possibility.
🌾 Two Successful Harvests — Traditional and Nerica Varieties
We’re proud to report two successful rice harvests between March 2024 and April 2025, using both traditional and Nerica rice varieties. These results prove that our approach—combining ancestral wisdom with improved seed varieties—is working.
We’re not just farming for today. We’re planting seeds for a sustainable tomorrow.
Backed by the AVDP and Generous Partners
Our work was selected and co-funded by the Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (AVDP) under the Ministry of Agriculture. Thanks to this support—and generous contributions from private donors and government partners—we also received new tools, improved seed rice (Nerika), fertilizers, and technical training to boost our efficiency and impact.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who believes in our mission.
What’s Next?
We’re just getting started. Our next goal is to expand to 10+ hectares, introduce mechanized farming, and reach more youth and women in Lugbu Chiefdom with training and employment opportunities.
With your continued support, we’ll get there—one field, one family at a time.
